Thanks to bloggers

Book bloggers play such a huge part in the promotion of books for Indie authors like me.  They go out of their way to read and review, share purchase links and thoughts on books, and in all of their free time.  And it really is time consuming.  I have taken on a 'guest blogger' position at Forever Me Romance and I have already had to flake out on a review because I just couldn't find the time to get the book read.  So I guess what I am trying to say is THANK YOU to all of the bloggers that go out of their way to help authors, purely for their love of books!

And to Alicia at A.K.A. The Book Harlots Review thank you for taking the time to make me some teaser graphics (like the one above) it is very much appreciated! <3

Not long now...

Have you read Finding My Way yet?  Not long until the Crossroads release,
you better get on it...

Thursday 5 September 2013

So you don't like free books?

I haven't had much of a response to the earlier post about this so here I go again... If you want a free copy of Crossroads, please provide the link to your review of Finding My Way in the comments section.

I will be giving out THREE ARCs of Crossroads to randomly chosen winners.

HURRY ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT TO ENTER!

And yes, before you ask, this is a blatant attempt to self-promote!  I need more reviews and rankings on Amazon and Goodreads, preferably before book two is released on September 13.  Thanks!

More ramblings

So I have sent the ARCs of Crossroads out to the bloggers that are participating in the blog tour and now I have nothing left to do but wait.  Wait for the feedback, wait for the release date, wait for the paperback proof... I HATE waiting!  This time last week I was stressed that I might not finish writing the book on time and now I'm done I kind of wish I wasn't.  What am I supposed to do now?  I would drink to celebrate but it's the middle of a school day here and I have kids to pick up, plus I have a nasty head cold.  I should probably clean the house but I have no energy (see above, head cold).

So what am I doing?  I'm writing these ramblings instead.  No story to write?  Write about nothing in particular.  Like this - it's sunny outside but I have a head cold and I don't want to go out.  I'd prefer to sit at my computer writing about nothing and waiting for someone to message me that they don't like that Nick did... or that Emma said... wouldn't want to miss those important messages.  And playing on Facebook, gotta do that, like all day.  That's what I'm doing la la lala la la lala

Random fact:  When self-publishing you need to format your work twice.  Once for digital (ebook) and once for print (paperback).  My digitally formatted pdf doc for Crossroads is only 203 pages long.  I was disappointed when I saw that.  To me that is a rather short book. Then I re-formatted for print - 325 pages.  That is perfect!  FMW was a whopping 537 (including title pages, etc.) and some complained that was too long, but hey what can I say? I like to ramble (see all this rambling ^^^)  But to me 325 pages is the perfect length for a book!  So I am stoked at that!

I am still in shock that I can say "I'm an author.  I've written two novels."  This time last year I hadn't even written a word and now I have three more books on the go... what a huge change in a small amount of time!  One day last September I woke up with a story in my head.  It was a short story about a girl called Nicole and a guy called Nick, who met at a train station.  It was a confusing conversation between Nic and Nick.  Nic was soon changed to Em and FMW was born.  FMW grew out of control and became a series.

Another random fact:  Nick was only ever meant to be a small character in the series, he wasn't even going to get his own POV.  I guess he just kinda took over!

Don't forget to post your review of FMW and put the link on my other post for your chance to win an ARC of Crossroads.  Spread the word, because I don't think people read my ramblings...

Feeling satisfied, Megan's ramblings & your chance to win an ARC!

The End... Today, in the wee hours of the morning I finally typed these words for Crossroads.  I am so excited to be able to share this book with you all very soon!  (Mark your calendars for September 13!)

A little bit about Crossroads... it is a shorter and less complicated story than Finding My Way.  It is also steamier, more angst-ridden and much more conclusive.  I love how my characters have evolved and I am really proud of them.  My hope now is that you readers will love it!  I am doing a read through at the moment, giving the book a once over as I wait patiently for feedback from my beta readers.

The next step... is to release the ARCs to bloggers that are participating in the Crossroads Blog Tour.  I currently have 36 bloggers signed up!  That is a really big deal for me!  I am overwhelmed with the response I have received.  Please follow this link to join the Facebook event so you can follow the blog tour and be part of the action.

Writing a review... is so important.  The best way to give thanks to an author is to leave a rating and a few words to let them know what you think of their work.  Happy thoughts are best (of course!) but constructive criticism is also appreciated.  I personally don't use an editor and so other than the couple of beta readers I have, plus the very few friends that like to read :(, the only feedback I get is from YOU, the reader.  If you leave a rating on Amazon or Goodreads it helps my book get noticed.  And as much as I like to think I write only for the joy it brings me, I'd be lying if I said I didn't want my books to get noticed.  I am surprised at the large number of copies of Finding My Way that have sold, but I am even more surprised at the small number of ratings I have received.  If you have read Finding My Way, please rate/review for me, I really do appreciate it.

Want to win an ARC of Crossroads?

As Crossroads is book two in the Finding My Way series, and picks up where Finding My Way left off, it is of course necessary for you to have read FMW before starting Crossroads, or I'm afraid it won't make much sense!  So now that I have practically begged you to write a review for FMW, here is my offer - Post the link to your review of FMW in the comments section underneath this post and I will use a random number generator to select THREE WINNERS to receive an ARC of Crossroads.  You have ONE WEEK to enter.  (Of course the winners of the ARCs are expected to also read and review Crossroads - so please only enter if you are willing to do so.)

Thanks for making it to the bottom of this post!  Please feel free to share it!
